UNICEF Australia is an Australian children’s charity with a global footprint, and we run entirely on voluntary donations. Alongside the community’s generous donations, UNICEF Australia receives funding from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) who are responsible for managing the Australian Government’s development program. To receive Australian Government funding, we undertake a rigorous accreditation process to ensure full transparency that the funding we receive is delivered to help children in need.
Through DFAT, we receive annual flexible funding from Australian NGO Cooperation Program (ANCP) which help to support our Priority Programs across early childhood development, child protection, child survival, and education programs in the Asia and Pacific region and beyond.
From July 2020 to June 2023, this support has contributed to impact for children in many countries across the following areas.

Grants
UNICEF Australia also received funding from the Australian Government through the following grants.
▪ Leaving no one behind - Establishing the basis for social protection floors in Lao PDR.
▪ VAHSI - Delivery Support Activities for Scaling up the COVID-19 Vaccine Roll-Out in Timor-Leste.
▪ COVID-19 Education Response - Strengthening Schools and Communities in Solomon Islands.
Additionally, the Australian Government provides direct funding to UNICEF global through core funding to be used where the need is greatest as well as targeted funding to support development programs in the Asia-Pacific region and to support UNICEF’s humanitarian responses to emergencies around the world, including Yemen, Afghanistan and Sri Lanka.
COVID-19 Response
The Australian Government has been a key partner in this response, supporting UNICEF’s work to mitigate the impacts of COVID-19 for children and families, as well as providing almost $AU304 million to the ACT-A-SFF to support COVID-19 vaccine rollouts in low- and middle-income countries. This funding has been a critical contribution towards ensuring that not only are vaccines procured, but that they are also successfully reaching the communities that need them most.
