What we’ve heard from young people like you!

Young Aussies have told us that social media is a big part of their lives. In fact, over 80 per cent of teens say social media has a positive impact on them. But, they also know there are some risks.

Did you know that 45 per cent of Aussie kids have been bullied online, and over 60 per cent of teens have been exposed to harmful content?

It is stats like these that are fuelling the debate around putting age limits on social media. But what we’ve noticed is that even though this directly impacts young people, it’s their voices and opinions that are often missing from the conversation.

We believe this needs to change. That’s why we’re talking to young people about their thoughts on social media and its impact on their lives.

Pass the mic - social media impact

Tell us what you think

  1. I don't have social media but my friends do, if you ban social media then there is no way of connecting with friends and expressing their opinions.

  2. I'm more connected with the world, i know whats happening at school and other places I go to, its nice

Why is UNICEF Australia involved?

At UNICEF Australia, we’re all about raising the voices of young people on the issues that matter most to them. One of the key areas we work in is making sure digital environments are safe for young people and that young people stay safe online. That’s why we’re handing the mic to young people to encourage them to speak up and have their voices heard on the impact of social media.
