Help children impacted by the Myanmar earthquake crisis
On 28 March, a powerful 7.7 earthquake struck in the early afternoon, followed by a 6.4 magnitude earthquake just two minutes later. The tremors were so intense they were felt over 1,300 kilometres away in Bangkok, Thailand. According to the latest reports, over 3,700 people have tragically lost their lives, with over 5,000 injured.
One month on, and bodies are still being pulled from the rubble, and many children remain missing, unaccompanied, or in deep shock. Thousands of children and families are still living in overcrowded, makeshift shelters with limited access to clean water, healthcare, and education.
The destruction is immense. Homes, schools, hospitals, and essential infrastructure have been severely damaged or destroyed, leaving entire communities cut off due to landslides and collapsed roads. Entire communities are without water, food, shelter, medicines and money.
Our teams are on the ground, delivering lifesaving supplies, including clean water, health kits, medical supplies, tents, and hygiene kits, such as soap, sanitary pads, and disinfectants, for children and families in desperate need.
The earthquake is exacerbating an already extreme dire situation. We urgently need your help to do more for children. Please donate today.
Myanmar Earthquakes
Before the earthquakes hit, the situation for millions of children in Myanmar was already dire. Please, donate now.

When the earthquake struck, Than Than Sint was seven months pregnant and battling a lung infection in hospital. Her husband’s quick actions saved her life, as he carried her to safety before the walls collapsed, but her thoughts immediately turned to her 15-year-old son, Aung Than, who lives with a disability and relies entirely on her for daily care.
Despite their home remaining standing, the family was deeply shaken by over 150 aftershocks and slept outside for several days, exposed to the elements.
UNICEF teams were on the ground in her village within days, providing hygiene kits, water purification tablets, and buckets. As Than Than Sint awaits her baby, UNICEF’s newborn kit is helping her prepare with essential supplies.
“The support from UNICEF makes a real difference,” Than Than Sint says. “We now have clean water to drink and wash, and I feel supported as I prepare for my baby’s arrival.”
What is happening in Myanmar?
The devastating earthquakes have come on top of an already desperate situation in Myanmar. Millions of children are living in fear, displacement, and poverty after four years of escalating conflict. The challenges they face are immense.
- Natural disasters, disease outbreaks, food insecurity, and inflation are pushing families to the brink.
- Many have lost their livelihoods and struggle to afford basic necessities like food and clean water.
- Electricity shortages, limited Internet access, and disrupted public services mean children can’t access healthcare or education.
Even before the earthquakes, UNICEF estimated that 19.9 million people—including 6.4 million children—would need humanitarian assistance in Myanmar in 2025. Now, those numbers will be even higher as communities work to recover and rebuild.
UNICEF has been supporting children in Myanmar since 1950, and we will continue to stay on the ground to deliver lifesaving support.
